Restaurants, cafés, and fast-food units located in train stations operate in highly dynamic environments where customer traffic changes throughout the day. Decisions such as opening hours, staffing levels, energy consumption, and operational schedules can significantly impact profitability, yet they are often based on experience rather than measurable patterns.

This platform was designed to analyze historical operational data and customer behavior to identify optimization opportunities. Instead of simply reporting past performance, it helps operators make informed decisions that increase revenue, reduce costs, and improve overall operational efficiency.

Understanding the business hierarchy was the foundation of the platform. Organizations often manage multiple brands, locations, stations, and retail units, each generating its own operational data. Designing this structure first ensured that insights and optimization opportunities could be surfaced at the appropriate level—from an individual restaurant to the entire organization.

The platform was built around data visualization from the ground up. Since the client’s primary objective was to transform operational data into actionable business insights, every interaction, navigation pattern, and screen was designed to support fast interpretation, comparison, and decision-making. Rather than treating charts as supporting elements, they became the foundation of the user experience.

The experience was designed around the daily workflow of a Zone Manager, whose primary responsibility is monitoring the performance of multiple restaurants within a geographic area. The interface provides a high-level overview of the entire zone before allowing users to progressively drill down into individual restaurants, where operational metrics, trends, and optimization opportunities can be explored in greater detail.

This hierarchical navigation ensures that managers can quickly identify underperforming locations, compare units, and make informed decisions without losing the broader operational context.

Zone

The Zone Overview provides managers with a consolidated view of all restaurants within their responsibility. Rather than focusing on individual units, the dashboard highlights aggregated operational performance and comparative insights, enabling managers to quickly identify trends, outliers, and optimization opportunities across the entire zone.

The primary focus is on transaction frequency (customer volume) and transaction value (revenue density), complemented by operational indicators such as opening and closing performance, mid-day activity, and comparative rankings. By visualizing every restaurant at a glance, managers can instantly identify the best and worst performing units for any selected period and decide where further investigation is needed.

Unit

While the Zone Overview focuses on comparison, the Unit Overview provides a detailed view of an individual restaurant’s performance throughout the day. Sales are visualized on an hourly basis, allowing managers to quickly identify demand fluctuations and evaluate operational performance over any selected period.

A dedicated Today view displays the current day’s progress in real time, clearly distinguishing completed hours from those still in progress. To simplify trend analysis, each operating day is also divided into four equal time segments (quarters) based on the restaurant’s opening hours. This provides an immediate understanding of how performance evolves throughout the day, making it easier to compare opening, mid-day, and closing performance while supporting faster operational decisions.

Opportunity Management

The Opportunity List gives Zone Managers a centralized view of every optimization opportunity identified across their restaurants. Instead of manually reviewing reports, managers can quickly prioritize actions by comparing the estimated operational and financial impact of each recommendation.

Each opportunity clearly communicates whether it proposes an increase or decrease to a specific operational parameter, alongside projected business metrics such as Cost of Sales (CoS), Gross Margin, revenue impact, confidence level, and expected financial benefit. This allows managers to focus on the highest-value opportunities while tracking their implementation and validation over time.
